Sony Ericsson W518 Review

The Sony Ericsson W518a comes in the familiar Sony design, and includes some very nice music features, but you won’t get quite as good of a camera as you would with some of the Sony Cyber Shot phones. You will get quite a few nice features with the Sony Ericsson W518a cell phone, like GPS and Bluetooth, as well as access to a number of third party applications.

With the Sony Ericsson W518a, you will get a flip phone that closely resembles the W980. There is a small external display that will show information such as call ID, battery life and signal strength. The W518a measures 3.7 x 2 x 0.46 inches and weighs 3.5 ounces, which is just compact enough to easily fit into your pocket, and it feels great when holding it in your hand.

When you open the Sony Ericsson W518a cell phone there is a 2.25-inch screen that supports 262,144 colors. This display is true to the tradition of Sony Ericsson and provides fantastic color and a crisp picture.

Some of the features that you get with the Sony Ericsson W518a include a phonebook that can hold up to 1,000 contacts, a vibrate mode, text and multimedia messaging, as well as a calendar, an alarm clock, and a speakerphone. There is also a task list, a notepad, a timer, and a stopwatch. Of course you will also get some high end features, such as a voice recorder, PC syncing, built in GPS, as well as voice commands and voice dialing. There is also instant messaging, access to email, a password saver, and Bluetooth.

Some of the third party applications that you get with this player include MySpace, and several others. For music, the Sony Ericsson W518a features a Sony Walkman player so you know you will be getting some quality sound. You can also use this device to listen to audio books and podcasts.

An additional multimedia feature that comes with the W518a is a built in 3.2-megapixel camera. You will get several different photography modes; in addition, this camera can also record video. For storing all of your multimedia files there is 82MB of memory, plus you can expand the phone’s memory with a memory card.

Although you may not get a lot of personalization options with the Sony Ericsson W518a, you can choose from a variety of different backgrounds, screensavers and more. If you like playing games you’ll like the W518a Sony Ericsson as, it supports java-based video games. You will never lack entertainment when you have your phone with you.

Those searching for a high quality cell phone that offers lots of features will want to take a closer look at the Sony Ericsson W518.

Not recommended

This phone is ugly, I have missed numerous calls while there is no notification that a call was ever recieved. It is so slow that you would never be able to make a call in a hurry because you have to wait for it to load.

I absolutely DO NOT recommend this phone.

Battery life sucks

If you need a phone to look good this it for you. If you want to be able to talk or text it is not for you. The battery life is awful and only lasts about 1 hour - avoid this phone

Easy to use but that is the only quality

I am not looking for a high tech cell so this seemed perfect as it is easy to use and the music sound quality was awesome.

However, it switches itself off at random and the ring tone is so short that I miss calls all the time. Not happy!
