Samsung Rugby Review

The Samsung Rugby A837 is a rugged; Push to Talk, mobile phone that offers some of the most popular features, including Bluetooth, a 1.3-megapixel camera, as well as a music player.
Although the Samsung Rugby phone is not encased in rubber like many mobiles constructed for durability, this phone does have a solid build; it measures 3.95 x 2.05 x 0.90 inches, and weighs 4.66 ounces. The Rugby is a large and heavy device, but it still fits in your pocket okay, and you can be sure it will withstand abuse a lot better than many of today’s mobile phones. It has military certification for dust, shock, and moisture.
On the outside of this phone is a small screen that displays information such as signal strength, time and date, as well as caller ID. With the internal display you get a display that measures 2-inches and supports 262,000 colors.
Some of the features that come with the Samsung Rugby A837, include a phonebook that will hold up to 1,000 contacts, plus you will get some essential features such as a vibrate mode, as well as text and multimedia messaging. There is also a tip calculator, a stopwatch, and an alarm clock, along with a world clock. Of course there are also some advanced features, such as Bluetooth, a voice recorder, in addition to USB mass storage, in addition you get GPS, instant messaging, and email support. Unfortunately, there is no voice dialing.
For taking pictures, the Samsung Rugby comes equipped with a 1.3-megapixel camera that offers several special photography settings. In addition, this camera can record video. The photo quality that you get with the Rugby is really nothing short of amazing, considering its low pixel camera size.
There are a few personalization options with the Samsung Rugby; you will be able to choose from several different backgrounds, greetings and alert tones. Of course there are also some preloaded games, as well as a mobile web browser.
The call quality that you get with the Rugby is fair, though voices sound a little mechanical at times. The multimedia performance is okay, though videos may take a few seconds to load. Surfing the web, even when using the 3G connection is a little slow, but this is likely due to the web browser and not the connection itself. This phone is rated for 5 hours of talk time and 10 days of standby.
There is no doubt that the Samsung Rugby A837 could improve on some things, but it really is a good choice if you want a rugged phone that offers you a lot more features than what you might expect out of this type of device.
