Samsung Intensity II in Blue Review

The phone measures 4.29 inches in height, 2.09 inches in width and is 0.61 inch thick. It weighs a total of 4.1 ounces, a slightly more than average weight for a feature phone of its size. The phone has curved edges which help it retain a stylish appeal, especially to the younger audiences it is catering for. In addition, the Blue sides and back give it a nice color contrast to the metallic black front and keyboard. Overall, the appearance of the phone is able to keep a nice balance between style, compact design and comfortable usability.

The phone’s screen is a 2.2 inch QVGA display supporting 262k colours and a resolution of 240x320. The quality of the screen is typical for a feature phone of this calibre. It provides enough quality for all the phone’s features and functions, but of course lacks the added spark that would be necessary for vibrant pictures or higher quality videos. The only downfall to the screen is that it does not perform well under direct sunlight. To customize the user’s experience the phone also offers the ability to adjust the screen’s level of brightness, its backlight time, clock format and display themes. The default menu is one which has been custom designed by Samsung to give added attraction to a younger audience, with a desk-like layout. However, for those wishing to stick to the more traditional menu there is also the option to switch.
Sliding from the left of the phone is its QWERTY keyboard, sharing the same black metallic finish as the front. The keyboard is nice and tactile and fits comfortably when holding it two-handed. Whilst the keys are elevated enough from the keyboards surface to give them a defined feel, they are quite close together. However, the user shouldn’t have too much difficulty adapting to their layout.
In addition to all the standard features found on a feature phone, the Intensity II comes with some added option for IM services and social networking sites. Instant messaging support is present for AIM, Windows Live and Yahoo protocols. The phone’s social networking capability is operated through The Social Beat app. This streams information through from your Twitter, Facebook and Myspace accounts.
There is a music player present on the phone. However, it is limited in quality, especially since the phone lacks a 3.5mm headset jack. Lastly, built into the phone is a 1.3-megapixel camera capable of recording video. It includes options for changing how pictures are taken, including the ability to adjust between resolution quality and colour effects. The photos it produces are of an average quality, though suitable for a feature phone.
