Samsung Infuse 4G Review

The Infuse 4G weighs once again into the discussion about how big is too big when it comes to screens. The phone’s sizable screen obviously means that the phone has to be of a large size itself, making it awkward to handle with one hand. For some the bigger the better, whilst for others the base phone experience becomes compromised by increasingly bigger screens.

The phone measures 5.2 inches in height, 2.8 inches in width and is 0.35 inch thick. The phone’s slim design and sleek appearance cannot be denied, at least when looking at it from a horizontal angle. It is understandable that the screen demands the phone’s large size, but due to its height and width the phone starts to lose some of its attraction. It can be used with one-hand depending on the user, but it becomes far more comfortable when operating the device two-handed.
The screen is a whopping 4.5 inches in size. It offers a very impressive display, with its Super AMOLED technology and 50% more subpixels than the previous generation of Super AMOLED screens. It supports a total resolution of 480x800. The resolution certainly isn’t the highest around, falling only slightly from the standard of the iPhone’s Retina Display. Still, the display is incredibly colorful and vibrant. Pictures and videos are graphically enhanced by the screen and text and icons appear sharp and defined. The large size of the screen also means that web browsing is improved, with plenty of room to make scrolling through large pages easy.
The phone ships running Android 2.2.1 and Samsung’s TouchWiz interface. It is surprising that the phone does not come with 2.3 Gingerbread, as the added improvements to performance and usability would have been appreciated. Still, TouchWiz arguably does enough to enhance the user experience. TouchWiz also offers the ability for users to customize up to 7 home screens with their favourite widgets and shortcuts.
Powering the phone is a 1.2GHz single-core processor. Those that understandably expect the latest technology from a phone like the Infuse 4G may be disappointed that the processor is not to the dual-core standard featured on competing phones. Still, the experience with the phone does not suggest that the phone is being supported by anything substandard. Indeed, speeds are pretty consistent and applications load up quickly.
Built into the phone is an 8-megapixel camera. The camera comes with LED flash, autofocus and the ability to record in 720p video. Included with the phone is software to help you customize, edit and enhance your photo experience. This includes such conveniences as blink detection, face detection and anti shake. The pictures produced are of an excellent standard, with slight deviations between indoor and outdoor quality.
