Samsung Evergreen Review
By Ruben Corbo on October 27th, 2011
The design of the phone will be familiar to those who owned Samsung’s older slide-up feature phones. It has the same black plastic body, though with rigid edges that removes some of its sleek appeal. In truth the phone is neither that stylish nor that small, but it is compact enough to make it comfortable to carry and hold. The phone is also made out of eco-friendly recyclable materials, an added attraction for those who are environmentally conscious.

The phone measures 4.56 inches in height, 2.2 inches and 0.6 inch deep. Its weight is set as a respectable 4.5 ounces. It features a 2.4 inch QVGA screen, supporting 262k colors and a resolution of 320x240. Both the screen’s size and resolution are acceptable for a feature phone of this standard. Images are clear enough and text is easy to read. It won’t be great for watching higher resolution videos, but feature phones are rarely equipped for this type of multimedia entertainment anyway.
Navigation is done through a pad located at the bottom of the screen, not dissimilar to that commonly seen on feature phones. It is supported by a green backlight. The keypad is much as you’d expect, the keys are comfortable to press though the plastic textured finish doesn’t leave the nicest touch. For types, you have the useful option of a sleek slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Despite the phone’s overall cheap construction, the mechanism of the keyboard works well, smoothly locking into place each way. The keys are nicely spaced out and are raised enough from the surface to give them a distinguished feel for touch typers. However, the space bar key is a little too small.
Though not a drastic improvement over previous feature phones, the Evergreen does come with a higher capacity phonebook. It can have up to 2,000 entries, all of which can have multiple contracts. Other features include the ability to form caller groups, programme customized messaging tones and photo ID.
The phone ships with 256MB internal memory, with the ability to add an additional 16GB through the phone’s SD card slot. The camera is 2-megapixel and comes supporting core functions such as digital zoom, exposure control, multi shot and a self-timer. You wouldn’t expect much from the quality of the photos, but they are slightly better than expected. Generally though the colors appear washed out and dull.
