Samsung Convoy 2 Review

The phone has a substantial feel to it at a weight of 3.9 ounces (considerably high considering its size). It measures 3.9 inches in height, 2 inches in width and is 0.9 inch thick. It makes no attempts to hide the fact that its design is foremost geared towards durability rather than style. This is not to say however that the phone is completely void of style, the neat flip-up design and walkie-talkie esque appearance give it its own distinguished military character. The phone is however constructed out of all plastic. So though it can take a small beating, it lacks the material reinforcement of other aluminium phones out there.

The external screen measures 1.3 inch in size and is a CSTN display, supporting a resolution of 128x128. It displays key information such as the date/day, time and remaining battery life. Below the external display are convenient controls for your music player, in addition to a button to bring up an abridged version of the menu (where you can access the phone’s core functions).
Flipping the phone open will reveal its 2.2 inch QVGA display with a resolution of 320x240. At a 262k color capability, the phone performs to the standard you’d expect from feature phone screen. It is clear enough to make everything legible and pictures are vibrant. The phone’s keypad using big rectangle buttons. They are elevated from the surface of the phone and each have a distinguished feel when pressed. The navigation pad is also very spacious and easy to use.
With the phone are all the features expected from a feature phone. This includes a phonebook with a 1,000 contact capacity, each of which can have multiple contact numbers programmed into it. Other features include the ability to form caller groups, picture ID and ring ID.
The phone features a 3.2-megapixel camera with LED flash and camcorder capability. The user also has the choice to choose between various settings to optimise how their pictures are taken. For a feature phone the pictures that the camera produced are of a good quality. They lack color in some areas, but are clear enough for you to capture any choice moment.
Built into the phone is 128MB of internal memory. Considering the phone’s limited multimedia capabilities, a small amount of memory won’t matter that much. Still, for those who do wish to load on music or take multiple pictures, they will need to consider expanding the memory for the phone’s SD card slot. The phone also comes ready with 3G capability, delivering ample speeds for you to perform all standard tasks effectively (including e-mail).
