Cell Phones

There was a time when mobile phones were the privilege of business executives and the wealthy, but today nearly everyone owns some type of cell phone, even many kids. Because of the popularity of these phones, a large part of the population is turning to mobile technology as their main form of communication. As a result of this, the popularity of landlines has declined; for most it doesn’t make much sense to pay for both services if a cell phone can do everything a landline can do, and more.

Cell phones can make and receive calls, and most calling plans give you free long distance so that is one less expense. In addition to performing these basic communication functions, a lot of cell phones give you access to your email, allow you to send and receive text and multimedia messages, as well as instant messages. In addition, you can take pictures and video with many of these phones, plus listen to your music whenever you want to. This is just an example of what cell phones offer over landlines, but if you have a smartphone you can do even more, including work at the beach with your mobile phone.

Replacing Your Home Phone With Free Phones

If you have been thinking about buying a cell phone and getting rid of your landline, but are worried about the cost of one of these devices, you will be happy to know that it is possible to get free phones.

A number of mobile service providers offer special deals where you can get free phones just for using that carrier’s service. Although you are required to sign a contract, if this was something you were thinking about doing anyway, it shouldn’t be too much of a problem. When singing a contract you are agreeing to use the carrier for a set period of time, usually about 2 years. If you don’t mind a contract, you can get free phones, but keep in mind that the contract is legally binding.

Prepaid Phones With No Contract

If you don’t like the idea of being locked into a contract, or you just don’t believe that your credit would allow you this type of phone service, there is always the option of using one of the prepaid phones. These cell phones give you the same features of contract phones, but you are under no obligation. Often service is a little more expensive with these phones, and you probably won’t get any prepaid phones for free.

Whichever way you go, there is no doubt that cell phones will soon replace landlines so you might as well start now and save yourself some money.
