Palm Pre Review
By admin on March 16th, 2010
The Palm Pre is a smartphone that is designed a little different; it is compact, with round, smooth edges. The exterior of this phone is kept simple, with very few controls to muck up the design. On the front of the Pre there is only one button and the display; it would be difficult to get simpler than that.
This compact mobile measures 3.9 x 2.3 x 0.6 inch, and weighs 4.76 ounces so you will find that it is a little heavy, but it still fits easily into a pocket or handbag. The large touchscreen of the Pre is one of the best features of this phone; at 3.1-inches it isn’t the largest screen you can get with a smartphone, but it is a very high quality display. The picture is colorful and sharp, so text and graphics look great. Another nice feature of the Pre touchscreen is that it is multi-touch; this means that you can easily zoom in and out of web pages simply by putting your fingers together on the screen.
When you slide open the Palm Pre there is a physical, full QWERTY keyboard. This is a feature that you won’t find with the iPhone; this is why a lot of people will prefer the Pre to the iPhone. With a full QWERTY keyboard you can easily type out email and text messages; though arguably this keyboard is a little cramped.
You will get a lot of extras with the Pre; it features a speakerphone, conference calling, and speed dialing. The Palm Pre does provide a lot of room in the phonebook for contacts; you will only be limited to your available memory. In addition, you will have access to your email accounts, as well as text and multimedia messaging. There is also support for instant messaging.
Some of the advanced features that come with the Palm Pre include 3G so you can stay connected to the Internet; there is also support for Bluetooth. The preloaded web browser that comes with this handset is good for a mobile browser. For people that travel one of the best features of the Pre are the built in GPS and preloaded Google Maps. With these navigation tools you will have no problem finding your way around, no matter where you travel.
For multimedia features the Pre comes with a music and video player, and support for a variety of different file formats, plus you have access to streaming video on YouTube. The one problem that some may not like is the fact that there is no microSD slot so you cannot expand the phone’s memory, though it does come with 8GB of internal memory.
Another extra that is included with the Palm Pre is the 3-megapixel camera that includes built in flash. Not only does the Pre make it easy to share your pictures with friends and family through Social Networking sites, but also the quality of the photos are good for a camera phone.
Though this is a great smartphone; the Palm Pre price can be steep, unless you can get it on a contract deal with Sprint.
