Palm Pre Plus Review

The Palm Pre Plus offers several enhancements, such as a better keyboard, as well as an overall revamp of design. When you first look at the Palm Pre Plus you probably will not see much of a difference from the Palm Pre; they are both slider phones with basically the same shape. In addition, both of these phones feature a 3.1-inch HVGA multi-touch screen, but on closer examination you will see that with the Palm Pre Plus there are some design differences that greatly enhance the feel and look of this phone.

In addition to having a better keyboard design the Palm Pre Plus has a more solid feel to it when you hold it in your hand; this phone measures 3.9 x 2.3 x 0.6 inches and weighs 4.89 ounces. Aside from these differences, the Palm Pre Plus is basically the same smartphone as the Palm Pre, but with some enhanced features.

The Palm Pre Plus does offer twice the flash memory as the other model at 16 GB, but unfortunately there is still no expandable memory. Another new feature is support for 3D gaming, but there are only a handful of games that are available as of yet. With the release of Palm WebOS 1.4 this phone has even more functionality; you get flash support and more.

With the Palm Pre Plus being a 3G phone, you can surf the Internet at fast speeds, with web pages that load fast. Another nice feature of this phone is that you get a dedicated YouTube application so that you can easily watch streaming video from that site; this is in addition to the streaming video you get from V Cast.

As part of the Palm Pre Plus multimedia features there is a built in 3-megapixel camera, and although this camera does not offer a lot in the way of editing options, the photo quality is still quite impressive for a phone camera.

The call quality that you get with the Palm Pre Plus is fairly good, but there does tend to be some background noise evident. The speakerphone performs about the same. People on the other end cannot really tell that you are on a cell phone. The battery life is rated for 5.5 hours of talk time and 14.5 days of standby time. With average use of all the features on this phone the battery will last a little over one day.

If you already own the Palm Pre, there probably isn’t a lot of incentive to purchase the Palm Pre Plus, but if you are looking for a new cell phone it is definitely a nice choice.

Brilliant

The call clarity is fantastic and I have had NO issues with people not being able to hear me which is not true for all smartphones! This Palm is intuituve and fun to use. The internet is super fast. The battery has drained by the end of the day so I keep a charger in the car and office just in case.. It is very easy to learn and at times seems to think ahead. Amazing!

The pre grows on you

I hated this phone for the first day but I was being too impatient with having to learn a whole new phone system and after a couple of days the time it took me to learn was really paying off.
After spending time learning the Pre's functions and how to "operate" it I think i have fallen in love. The Palm's internet speed is amazing and I can even sync with my work e-mail.
I wish the battery life wasn't so awful and i would recommend an in car charger!
As a cellphone, the Pre Plus does well in all areas with one exception: there's still no voice dialing!!

ALMOST does everything I need

The pre is excellent at multi-tasking, especially with increased memory on the Pre Plus. I have had no problems with the touch screen and was able to navigate my way around it with no problem.

The real drawbak is that the battery life just long enough to get you through the day without charging which is really not enough.

Really pleased I chose the Palm pre plus

This phone has a fantastic screen and it synced easily with my work Microsoft Exchange. Although the keyboard is small it is still easy to use. The call quality is great and the internet is awesome.

SO much better than Blackberry

Apr 2nd, 2010

As a MASSIVE fan of the Blackberry, I took the hard decision of chosing the Palm Pre Plus over the latest Blackberry model!
It was very tough to get used to this keyboard, but after aabout a week I was using it like a pro.

I would say that if I continue to love this phone as much as I do now a year on, I would get another Palm phone. However, if the keyboard gets a little better, the display screen gets just a little bigger, all while staying as great as it is now, there is no doubt I would stay with the Palm phone product.
