Palm Pixi Review
By admin on March 16th, 2010
The Palm Pixi is a more compact and less expensive version of the Palm Pre; it is an entry-level smartphone that focuses on features that are attractive to the younger generations, such as messaging. Due to the fact that this phone is a little more compact than the Pre, plus it won’t cost you as much money, you probably won’t be too surprised that there are some features missing, such as WiFi.
There is no doubt that the Palm Pixi phone has improved in some areas; it comes in a sleek and sexy design, plus you get an improved contact management system and a better keyboard than what you get with the Pre. You also won’t have to give up 3G, Bluetooth, or GPS, as the Pixi Palm has all of these features. Although this phone is great for those new to smartphones, people who use their handsets for business will probably want to get something more like the Palm Pre, which is a more advanced smartphone.
One advantage that the Palm Pixi has over the Pre is that it feels more solid, plus it has a sleeker, compact design, measuring 4.37 x 2.17 x 0.43 inches and weighs 3.26 ounces. Of course with this phone being so small you will also get a smaller display; the screen measures 2.63-inches, which does make viewing web pages and video a little difficult. Below the screen you find a QWERTY keyboard, which is very useful for sending email and text messages.
Unfortunately the Palm Pixi phone does not come with WiFi, which will be a big disappointment for some people, plus you won’t get the same camera that comes with the Pre. The Palm Pixi has a built in 2-megapixel camera, which can take fair pictures, but it’s probably not as good as what you would get with a better camera.
Of course there are several personal management applications such as a document viewer, task manager, and a PDF viewer. You also get text and multimedia messaging, speed dial and a multimedia player that supports a range of audio and video file formats so you never have to be without entertainment. The sound quality of the music player is really very good, but watching videos is a task with such a small screen.
The call quality of the Pixi Palm is fairly good, with calls being clear; accessing web pages takes a little longer that it does with the Pre, though there isn’t a lot of difference. With average use you should get about 5 hours of talk time and 14 hours of standby time.
If you are looking for an entry-level smartphone, the Palm Pixi is a good choice, and it is less expensive than the Palm Pre.
