Palm Centro Review
The Centro by Palm is the first smartphone from this company to finally make an attempt to catch up to the competition. This mobile is marketed as an entry-level smartphone perfect for those who are ready to move over from cell phones.
With the Palm Centro you get a very reasonably priced smartphone, plus you should get some major discounts when you buy this phone in conjunction with a mobile service contract. For people who are new to smartphones and are a little worried that this type of phone will be too complicated to use, this is one smartphone that offers a fairly simple interface. The Centro is smaller than the previous smartphone models from Palm, measuring 4.2 x 2.1x 0.7 and weighs 4.2 ounces.
The Centro Palm comes in two different colors, black onyx and red. Although this phone is smaller than the Treo, the design really isn’t anymore attractive so you won’t get quite the flash that you might get with some of the other smartphones, such as Nokia, but it is smaller and fits in the hand better.
On the front of the Centro by Palm smartphone is a 2.25-inch touchscreen; this feature is one of the advantages the Centro has over the competition. You will love the convenience of being able to navigate and launch applications via the touchscreen.
Some of the features that you’ll get with the Palm Centro include personal management tools, and a document viewer so that you can view email attachments in a variety of different file formats, including PowerPoint, Excel and Word documents. You get real time access to your email accounts, as well as support for some Instant Messaging applications, including Yahoo Messenger, Windows Live, and AIM.
For phone features you get three way calling, speakerphone, and speed dial. There is also the option of assigning a photo to people on your contact list so that it’s easy to see who is calling you with the Caller ID. Although you don’t get WiFi with the Centro Palm, you do get 3G, which means that you can get broadband Internet speeds. With the upgraded web browser that comes with this smartphone you can even watch YouTube videos.
For multimedia, the Centro by Palm comes with a fairly good music player, and there is also a 1.3-megapixel camera. Although the camera doesn’t have flash, or any other special features, it still takes surprisingly good pictures.
Call quality isn’t the best it could be, but not too bad overall. You may get some background noise. The battery life provides about four hours of continuous talk time before you need to recharge.
The Centro Palm is a good deal for those who are thinking of getting their first smartphone.
