Motorola ES400 Review

This, however, has now changed with Motorola refreshing its cell phones ranges with a number of great devices including the Motorola ES400, which is aimed squarely at business users that are looking for a more hard-wearing mobile handset that isn’t lacking in performance and features.

When it comes to features and facilities the Motorola ES400 has been aimed mainly at the business users and this means that the device offers users far greater durability than regular cell phones but also provides plenty in terms of business tools and strong performance.
Whilst not as powerful as some smartphones on the market the Motorola ES400 bears a striking resemblance to Blackberry devices although it has lots of features that make it uniquely Motorola. These features include:
- A strong, durable case that allows it to take far more bumps than any regular cell phone and can resist humidity, rain, thermal shock and even a drop from as high as 0.9 metres
- Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5.3 Professional operating system that provide a user friendly interface that is fast and highly adaptable for any kind of user
- The ability to switch between CDMA and GSM 3.5G network so users are able to use the device around the world without having to worry about compatibility
- Great performance using the 600MHz ARM 11 processor and a huge 32GB of data storage allowing the device to handle anything users can throw at it
With the Motorola being designed for a specific purpose there are going to be areas the device is strong in and areas where it will be quite limited and the important thing for users is to understand whether the devices strengths are the ones they need.
Pros
- Very durable: The Motorola ES400 may not be indestructible but it is highly durable and is capable of taking far more knocks than a regular handset making it ideal for business users that are constantly on the move
- High quality display: Even though the device has quite a small 3.0 inch screen the quality is very impressive, offering 266.67 pixels per inch making both images and text crisp and vivid
- Dual network support: With most cell phone networks around the world support either GSM or CDMA the fact that this device can automatically switch between both is a big bonus for business users that travel a lot
Cons
- Size and weight issue: It seems that added durability comes at a price and in this case it is the size and weight of the device with a overall weight of 5.5 ounces and a thickness of 16.5mm which is more than most similar handsets
- Limited apps: The use of Windows Mobile 6.5.3 will mean that compared to Android OS handsets users will be far more limited to the apps they can download
- Small keyboard: Only a few cell phones come with an external keyboard on them and for some they are a huge asset to users, however, the size of the keyboard on this device is quite small and may be difficult for many users to use properly
