Motorola Droid 3 Review
By Blake Sanders on November 1st, 2011
The latest of the Droid range is the Motorola Droid 3, which is highly attractive device that has an impressive selection of technical specs that should prove popular amongst many smartphone users. Compared to the other high-end cell phones that are currently on the market it more than holds its own against the competition.
As the third in the line of Droid handsets to be released by Motorola the Motorola Droid 3 is similar to the previous versions, although it does have a number of both cosmetic and technology based changes that should please many of the users that have been waiting for this handset to be release. Amongst the various features that are included in the new Motorola Droid 3 handset are:
- The cosmetics, which had seen the handset thickness reduced to just 13mm and makes it the thinnest in the range whilst the weight has jumped to 6.49 ounces making it the heaviest of the three devices
- A powerful 1GHz dual-core processor that can handle all the latest Android apps and offers users a smooth and fluid multitasking experience
- A full QWERTY keyboard that slides out from under the display and now comes with dedicated numbers rather than having to press ALT or FN to use them
- An 8 megapixel camera that can not only produce incredible photographic output but can also shoot 1080p video footage too
- Internal memory storage of 16GB with an additional 32GB of external memory available through its microSD slot
As the third in the range most would expect that Motorola would have ironed out all the creases in the Motorola Droid 3 handset and to its credit Motorola has done a lot of work to make this the best of the group. This does not, however, mean that the Motorola Droid 3 does not have its flaws amongst some of the great improvements that have been made.
Pros
- The keyboard: The inclusion of a keyboard that has 5-rows of letters and numbers makes typing far easier and more fluid
- Dual core processor: With a 1GHz dual core processor everything about this handset is fast from multitasking to rendering pictures on screen to opening any of the thousands of Android apps that are available
- 8 megapixel camera: The upgrade from a 5 megapixel to an 8 megapixel camera will not go unnoticed by users as the output quality and the 1080p HD video capabilities make this one of the best phone camera currently available
Cons
- The screen: Even though the screen is a 4 inch qHD display it does at times appear a little slow and unresponsive when using intensive apps
- No 4G: The increase in the number of 4G ready cell phones on the market means that it is a little disappointing to see the latest in the Droid range only offering 3G access
- Battery life: The biggest issue with many Android phones is the battery life and this device is no exception with heavy use only providing around 4 hours of use before a recharge is needed
