LG Thrill 4G Review

As is often the case with phones that pack this type of hardware, there is a price to pay in design and size. The phone measures 5.07 inches in height, 2.67 inches in width and 0.47 inches in depth. It has a total weight of 5.93 ounces, making it another hefty contender on a market of ever growing phones. The phone’s construction is one of quality, with the fine metallic finish giving it a soft touch and an eloquent feel in the palm of your hand. It is worth considering the size however if you are not use to the more recent smartphones. For an older phone user, especially a user of feature phones, the change in size and weight proportion could be a difficult adjustment.

Below the display are the usual touch sensitive shortcuts that can be found on Android handsets; Menu, Home, Back and Search. On the right hand side there is a button which launches the phone’s 3D application. The phone also features an HDMI port.
The screen is an impressive 4.3 inches, working at a resolution of 800x480. It lacks the Super LCD quality of other phones currently on the market, but nevertheless provides clear and vibrant images. The touch aspect of the screen is also responsive, with only a smidgen of sluggishness when flicking between numerous applications.
Against its competition the LCD Thrill makes strong attempts to offer an enhanced 3D experience. The depth of field is increased and it comes preloaded with more 3D content to test it all out. As with all glasses-free 3D devices, the viewing angels are extremely limited. The phone insists you look at it straight on to get the proper effect of the 3D experience.
The phone ships with Android 2.2.2, but is now upgradeable to Android 2.3. The phone comes equipped with LG’s proprietary user experience. This doesn’t really have the same flair as other interfaces such as the HTC Sense, but delivers a moderate user experience. With it you can customize the phone’s overall layout, such as the positioning of apps, app menus and widgets.
It houses a 1GHz dual-core processor which gives the phone some powerful performance. Whether it is the hardware, the operating system or the screen, there were some sluggish incidents with particular apps. The processor is one of the more powerful around, but of course it is supporting some demanding features, especially 3D.
