LG Neon Review
By admin on March 8th, 2010
The LG Neon is a mobile phone that puts a lot of focus on messaging. With the Neon, you will get a stylish and compact phone with a full QWERTY keyboard, a 2.4-inch touchscreen, plus support for 3G.
This compact phone measures 4 x 2 x 0.66 and measures 3.81 ounces, so it is lightweight and small enough that it’s easy to slip into your pocket and carry around with you. On the front there is a glossy, black finish and the display, which supports 262,000 colors and has a resolution of 240x320. Although this is technically a touchscreen, this feature only works for dialing numbers, which is a little unusual.
Some of the features you’ll get with the LG Neon include enough room to add up to 1000 contacts to your phonebook. There are some basic features including a vibrate mode, a speakerphone, plus there is text and multimedia messaging. Of course you do get features like a calendar, an alarm clock, and a notepad, a calculator, along with a world clock, a unit converter, and a stopwatch.
Although not exactly a high level mobile, the LG Neon does offer some advanced features, including support for instant messaging programs like Yahoo, AIM, and Live Messenger. You will also get support for web-based email.
For multimedia features the LG Neon phone comes with a basic music player that supports a variety of file formats including AAC, AAC+, MP3, and WMA. There is no support for 3G, but you do get EDGE. Downloading music over the air isn’t really a good option due to the fact that the download speeds are not good, but you could add music via the microSD card.
There is also a built in 2-megapixel camera with settings that include zoom and self-portrait modes. There is also a video recorder so that you can take video without having to carry around a camcorder. To personalize this phone you can choose from a variety of different wallpapers, screensavers and alert tones, plus there are some games included.
The call quality you get with the LG Neon is really very impressive, there is no static and voices sound clear and natural. Unfortunately the audio quality of the music player isn’t quite as good, and the web features are too slow to be very useful, and downloading music over the air is slow as well.
The battery life for the Neon is rated for 3 hours of talk time and about 10 days of standby time, but you will likely get a little more out of it before you will need to recharge.
If you are looking for a simple messaging phone, the LG Neon is a good choice despite its few problems.
