LG Marquee Review

The LG Marquee is the Optimus Black reincarnated, reintroduced for US audiences via Sprint. The Optimus line up has been generally impressive so far, and this phone does not deviate from the pattern. The phone’s design fits into LG’s known proficiency for producing good looking and stylish phones.

The phone is one of the trimmest phones on the market, with a fine black finish. It measures 4.8 inches in height, 2.52 inches in width and 0.36 inches in thickness. It weighs a total of 3.95ounces. Its light weight harks back to feature phones of earlier years. It is a subtle companion and its weight can scarcely be felt in your pocket.

When the phone was announced its screen was one of its biggest selling points. In reality the display certainly delivers. It is a remarkable 4 inches in size and produces bright, clear and vibrant images. Whether it meets the standards of iPhone’s retina display is debatable, but it certainly makes a strong attempt to. It outperforms the latest HTC and Motorola phones, not just in size but also in resolution and color contrast.

Looking at it from the front, its sleek design is accompanied by the usual 4 Android shortcut keys. In addition, located at the top left corner of the phone is a 2-megapixel front facing camera for video conversations.

The phone ships with the latest version of Android Gingerbread, with SprintID compatibility. This comes with the usual benefits – a better interface, improved performance and an enhanced virtual keyboard. In addition it comes with the entire collection of core Google features that are found in Android phones. This includes Google Search with Voice, Google Latitude, Gmail and Google Talk. The phone comes with little other software luggage, which is always an added bonus for smartphones. The interface offers the same experience you’ve come to expect from Android. It doesn’t deviate much, with the same basic layout and relatively smooth performance throughout.

For connectivity options the phone comes capable of Wi-Fi, GPA and Bluetooth 3.0. It also comes with Rev. A 3G support which is a nice surprise given the phone isn’t part of that same high price bracket.

The phone is powered by a 1HGzprocessor with 512MB of RAM. It has a capacity for 32GB of space through an SD card. The phone’s camera is high performing, at a quality of 5-megapixel. It also features 720p video capability. The quality of the pictures produced is of a moderate to good quality. They can often suffer from exposure to certain light conditions, particularly bright lights.

The phone’s call quality performs well throughout, with little background noise or disturbance.
