LG Double Play Review
By Jo Wilkes on December 9th, 2011
The LG Double Play is a sliding phone design that benefits from a keyboard that slides out from underneath the phone. This is also where the second screen will be found, splitting the QWERTY keyboard into two and prompting all but the most dedicated touch typists to get a little annoyed with their typing skills. If you’re a self taught typist you might struggle to get used to the keyboard being firmly split in two like this.

But what else does the LG Double Play offer? Does it have enough to make up for these two rather strange changes to the standard sliding keyboard design?
Firstly this is an Android phone supporting Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It also has a 1GHz processor that should prove more than enough to cater for all the applications and tasks that can be performed on the phone. Those who enjoy multi-tasking are most likely to get along with this phone, although it still remains to be seen whether the second screen is worth its inclusion.
But what about the main screen? Well this offers a 3.5 inch size and a 480 by 320 resolution. Some feel the screen could be a tad bigger and perhaps of better quality too, as it can be tricky to see the screen images accurately when the light is good. The second screen is 2 inches in size, but it actually looks far better than the larger one, which is a shame.
Overall the phone measures 122mm long by 63.5mm wide and 16mm thick. You’ll notice this is quite a chunky thickness. Indeed you would be hard pushed to find a phone that is any thicker than this one. This could be an issue since the design has made the phone somewhat tricky to keep a firm grip on, whatever you might be doing with it. Combined with the weight of the phone – 190 grams, unbelievably enough – this makes it very important to hang onto.
Clearly the dividing line between the haves and the have nots here will be the design. If you like something quirky and different you’ll probably be eager to try the LG Double Play. But if not, you’ll probably find you will prefer another smart phone that sticks with just the one screen so as not to overcomplicate things.
