HTC Snap Review

With the HTC Snap you get a smartphone that features a QWERTY keyboard, as well as a number of other features. Although this isn’t the flashiest smartphone on the market, it does have its place with users that want an affordable smartphone that pays a lot of attention to messaging features.

The design of the HTC Snap is not outstanding, but is still fairly nice; the Snap measures 4.5 x 2.5 x .6 inches and weighs 4.5 ounces, so this isn’t the most lightweight smartphone available, but it does offer many features that might outweigh this fact. The Snap comes in a semi glossy finish, and it seems to be very solidly built.

Call quality with the Snap HTC isn’t the best, there are times that the signal is weak and there is static on the line, but of course this will depend a lot on where you are when you use your phone. The speakerphone also has some problem with the audio during calls. The Snap is rated for about 4 hours of talk time.

One feature that is missing with the HTC Snap is there is no voice dialing, so you will have to go through your contact list to dial a number. Fortunately this is fairly simple, as you can search your contacts right from the home screen by typing a first or last name.

The one area where the HTC Snap shines is in its messaging features. You’ll get several messaging options, such as AIM, and MSN, as well as Yahoo! Instant Messaging, plus it supports POP, and IMAP, in addition to Microsoft Exchange email systems. Another great feature that you get with the Snap is support for many of the most popular web based email applications, such as Gmail.

The Snap also supports 3G, so you can download your email, surf the web at high speed, and you also get support for Bluetooth wireless.

As part of the multimedia package there is a 2-megapixel camera that comes with a fixed focus option. This camera does take some okay pictures, but the quality isn’t as good as what you get from some of the cameras that come with the high-end smartphones.

The HTC Snap does offer some superior messaging capabilities, plus an okay camera and music player, but the one area where there is a problem is in call quality. If you live in an area that has good coverage then you likely wont’ even notice any problems with your phone calls, but for those who are not living in a city, this probably won’t be a great phone for you.

The Snap HTC mobile phone can be a good choice if you live in the service carrier’s coverage area, otherwise you may want to look elsewhere.
