HTC Sensation 4G Review

The sensational performance of HTC’s new 4G phone (pun intended!) makes it a market leading piece of kit. Not only is the phone sleek and one of the better HTC phones to look at, but it triumphantly wields a 4.3 inch HD display, a 1.2GFz dual-core processor and an 8-megapixel camera. The screen has a resolution of 540x960. It is vibrant, colorful and one of the clearest, sharpest screens currently available.

The phone’s stellar performance is aided by the 2.3 version of Android Gingerbread and the latest version of HTC Sense. It has a sturdy, well defined build which takes the best attributes of past HTC phones and enhances them. The phone has an aluminium chassis and its construction oozes high quality throughout. The most impressive part of this however, is that it retains its high quality and sleek appeal even with a 4.3 inch display. Past HTC phones such as the HTC HD7 have shown off what a large screen can do for a HTC phone, but have always come at a compromise of bulkiness and reduced ‘sleek’ appeal. With the Sensation 4G you get the whole package. The touch-screen is one of the best available, responsive to the touch whilst also remaining relatively light.

The refined screen comes from the new Super LCD touch screen technology, currently utilised by a select few phones on the market. As with all recent HTC phones, at the bottom of the screen there are four touch-sensitive buttons that navigate between home, menu, back and search. Everything else that you would expect from a phone of this calibre is included, including a microUSB slot, a microSD card slot and a 35mm headphone jack.

HTC Sense has never disappointed when it comes to delivering a better experience with smart phones, whether it be HTC or Android, and this phone is no exception. Aesthetically it enhances the phone’s interface by leaps and bounds and also comes with the added benefit of shortcuts for your favorite applications.

The phone’s 8-megapixel camera is a superb addition to an already impressive phone. It is capable of recording in 1080p video, has dual LED flash and a number of convenient software options for customizing and enhancing your pictures. The picture quality is very good and performed well under different lighting conditions. Typically HTC phone cameras suffer with such things as indoor lighting, so it is a nice surprise to see HTC rectify this with the Sensation.

One drawback to the phone, however, is that the 4G speeds aren’t that impressive. The phone has a theoretical download speed of 14.4Mbps. Yes it is a respectable increase over 3G capable speeds, but it certainly doesn’t as yet do justice to the ‘4G’ tag on its name.
