HTC Amaze 4G Review

T-Mobile’s new HTC Amaze 4g is a respectable addition to its HSPA+42 network. First and foremost, the phone is one of the best on the market in terms of hardware spec. It utilises the new improved 1.5gfz dual-core processor (Qualcomm Snapdragon S3). It might only be a marginal step up to other phones currently using a dual-core processor, but it nevertheless gives it a further help-out with the phone’s overall performance. It runs fast and seldom suffers from slow down, even on the more demanding applications.

The phone uses Android Gingerbread version 2.3.4. Albeit not the latest version of Gingerbread, it is slick, attractive and evermore user friendly. It also comes with the latest version of HTC Sense pre-installed, with its engaging and captivating graphical interface ready from the point you switch it on.

In terms of screen size, it doesn’t offer anything new over recent HTC phones. It is still however a very impressive display. The screen is 4.3 inches in size and has a resolution of 540x960. It is of course multi-touch and like the HTC Evo has four touch-sensitive buttons located at the bottom of the phone.

The design of the phone gives it a flash, modern look. It has a textured surface on the back of the phone, surrounded by a metal frame. Overall, it handles well and feels comfortable in the palm of the hand. It grips easily, something that HTC phones have not always got quite right.

The phone has an 8-megapixel camera that is capable of recording video in 1080p. This is where the HTC Amaze 4G retains a competitive edge – the phone introduces two new features to provide an enhanced camera experience. Firstly, SmartShot is a new feature built into the camera. It takes 5 shots in succession and then uses the best elements of those photos to create one final result. PerfectPics offers similar convenience. It is a gallery feature that takes the best ‘technically correct’ pictures and creates a folder for them. It determines this by measuring the lighting, depth and glare.

It also has a 2 megapixel frontal camera. At this point in the game, some might expect this to be higher, but how much of an issue that is depends on the amount you use it.

Otherwise, the phone earns its place as one of the current leading models on the market. It comes with 16 GB storage memory, a hefty improvement over the lower storage memories offered by other HTC phones. Its 4G is as you have come to expect, it makes no great improvements over previous models but nevertheless offers relatively fast, steady speeds.
