Are travellers relying more on tablets than cell phones?

A recent report has shown how the use of Internet tablets and e-readers has been increasing amongst travellers, with many now using them more than they use their cell phones whilst on the move.

A recently released study has suggested that a rising number of travellers are now relying more on devices such as Internet tablets and e-readers than they do their cell phones, with many using these devices on modes of transport such as planes, trains and buses. In the past, most people who used these modes of transport used devices such as iPods and their cell phones to keep themselves occupied. However, the rise of new technology has seen a definite shift in trends.

According to the study, the use of devices such as internet tablets and e-readers increased by more than fifty percent over the course of last year across all modes of transport. This reflects the changing trends amongst those using transport modes such as trains, plans and buses when it comes to keeping themselves entertained or informed whilst on the move. The most dramatic change was seen amongst passengers on airline flights, with one in twelve using an Internet tablet for the month of December.

An official involved in the study said: "Technology is evolving to be more friendly for cramped airline environments. The digital revolution is transforming air travel in other ways. You can bring your TV episodes or address books."

Whilst consumers are still reliant on carrying their cell phones and smart phones around with them, it seems that for those who travel a lot the Internet tablet and entertainment devices such as e-readers are now also essential items.
