Both the Android and iPhone have seen a huge increase in the number of tower defense games hitting their devices, with one being an almost identical clone of the other with slightly different graphics or features. That is until Plants vs. Zombies appeared on the market and changed the whole style and appeal of the tower defense genre.
Some may think that a game that involves players using plants to defend against hordes of zombies hell bent on getting into the home to feast on brains a little strange but the truth is that it works really well and can provide players with hours and hours of highly addictive entertainment.
Each level in the game throws an ever growing horde of different zombies at the player and provides them with an increasing number of plant based weapons to fend them off. Rather than the usual winding paths used in most tower defense games Plants vs Zombies has opted for a more simplistic approach of six lanes that make up the players back yard. This would lead players to thinking the game would be too easy but you will soon realise that the requirement for planning ahead and forming strategies becomes more important with each new level.
The game itself is split into a number of different game types with the usually story based adventure mode, which provides players with a well thought out and humorous storyline. This initially gives users an expanding tutorial and then later just pads out the overall gameplay with advice and information to help players along. Apart from Adventure mode, players can eventually unlock additional content like survival and puzzle modes as well as various mini games that will ensure that most players continue to keep playing long after the adventure mode has been completed.
