Every one more or less knows that Angry Birds is the most popular and widely downloaded mobile app on any mobile device but when it comes to innovation, entertainment value and the quality of the puzzle Cut the Rope comes in a very close second.
Continuing the comparison between the two games the addictiveness and level design quality are almost identical but Cut the Rope has chosen to move away from the angry model and has opted instead for the cute, hungry monster model.
The game is an arcade puzzle that revolves around a creature called Om Nom whose sole aim is to eat candy, which in turn completes each level. Although this sounds simple enough each level is a complicated physics based puzzle that requires the player to swipe their finger across the display to cut ropes in order to get the candy to Om Nom.
As the game progresses the levels become increasingly complex and require more and more thought on what to cut, when and where in order to get the candy to the open, waiting mouth of Om Nom. This can often lead to hours of increasing frustration as you try in vain to get the candy to its intended target. The up side to this is the huge feeling of accomplishment when completing a particularly difficult level after hours and hours of hard work and, of course, trial and error.
The learning curve for Cut the Rope is probably what makes the game so addictive with each section of the game starting off with fairly easy levels that get the player used to the new features and obstacles that have been added but then progresses to mind bendingly difficult levels as the game nears the end of the section.
By doing this the game ensures that players will keep playing and playing over and over again as something new and interesting pops up to make the level more challenging.
