Blackberry Pearl 8130 Review
By admin on March 2nd, 2010
If you were a fan of the Pearl, you’ll probably have some interest in the BlackBerry Pearl 8130, which is an upgraded version of the original. This phone comes in a candy bar design that features a modified QWERTY keyboard. Some of the improvements you’ll find with BlackBerry 8130 are an included a built in GPS, high-speed data transfers, as well as video recording capabilities.
With this phone you can surf the Internet at high speeds, and you can even listen to your favorite music while on the go, but it really doesn’t compete with the high level smartphones that are available today.
One of the main things that the BlackBerry phones are known for is their superior email capability, and there is no doubt that the 8130 Pearl is no exception. With this phone you can have up to 10 email accounts, plus there is support for downloading instant messaging such as Yahoo Messenger, and Windows Live Messenger.
A popular feature of the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 is the SureType keyboard, which is basically a modified QWERTY. Despite its popularity, this type of keyboard really isn’t all that easy to use. Although it does feature predictive text, the white trackball makes this feature frustrating to use.
The music player that comes with the 8130 is nice, but probably wouldn’t match the iPhone for quality. You do get support for a lot of different file formats including MP3, WMA, and AAC files. Video files play without any problems, but the screen does make it a little awkward to view them.
With the built in GPS, you can subscribe to a GPS service and get spoken, turn-by-turn directions, which is a great feature if you travel a lot and have to find your way around unfamiliar places. The 2-megapixel camera that comes with the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 can take some good pictures, but they won’t compare with those taken by a stand alone digital camera. The coloring tends to be off or flat, though the LED flash does help some.
You will also find that the 8130 Pearl does offer great battery life; you should be able to talk about 5 hours without having to recharge. This phone is not too bad, but if you like a mobile with a keyboard that’s easy to use, you’ll probably want to look at something like the BlackBerry 8830, which offers a full QWERTY keyboard, but doesn’t have some of the great multimedia features as this phone.
The BlackBerry Pearl 8130 is a nice phone as long as you can get accustomed to the keyboard. It offers numerous high-end features at a reasonable cost, and when buying on contract you may even get a better deal.
